Hitch Plug Covers: Your Own Personal Platform
The first hitch plug covers were probably just that. Made of some kind of rubber or plastic compound they plugged into the hole the hitch came out of and kept it free of dirt, dust and other corrosive elements. The first ornamentation was most likely advertising for the manufacturer or the vehicle that the hitch was attached to.
But people are more creative than that. In no time at all this area, which is not much larger than a few inches square, became a platform, a way to express yourself, make statements or just bring a smile to someone's face.
Now people who use plain covers are considered just a little plain themselves. With so many ideas to choose from it seems unlikely that you can't find the exact one that does it for you. If you are a serious tailgater than a decorative plug cover is for you and I don't mean something ornate and flowery. I mean, sportsmen and women off to support their teams, can add another spokesperson to the tailgater crowd.
All the well-known teams are represented as hitch cover emblems as well as numerous college teams. You can brandish your support for anything: the army, navy, air force, the flag or a yellow ribbon for the troops. Why leave people in the dark about your affiliations?
There are also the hitch plug covers with no real agenda. Their vehicle owners chose them for the sheer fun of it. There are the lighted skulls and dragons heads whose eyes light up when you hit the break and the little yellow smiling face that does the same. Lets face it the decorative ones do the job but they do it with style and that's hard to resist.
