Toyota Hitch Options Vary
Toyota hitch options vary according to the vehicle model, with more variety available for the SUV and pickup truck models, that are better suited to towing, than their saloon car cousins.
Class I tow options are possibilities for most Toyota models though they are not necessarily the most appropriate. This is the lightest duty tow hitch class with a towing capacity of 2,000lbs Gross Trailer Weight and 200lbs tongue weight. This tow package is best suited to Toyota vehicles with an appropriate low tow capacity like the RAV4. It would be under-using the resources of the 4Runner and Land Cruiser.
Class II tow packages can be used by all Toyota vehicles except for the RAV4 that is best suited to the Class I option. Class II towing capacity is 3,500lbs GTW and 350lbs tongue weight. The Sienna model uses a factory manufactured towing package in this class
Toyota's best tow vehicles all use the Class III tow packages that have a tow capacity of 5,000lbs GTW with a 500lbs tongue weight. This is a large enough tow capacity to accommodate most travel and boat trailers. The Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner and Land Cruiser all fall into this category and are ideal tow vehicles for families that enjoy the outdoors, camping and boating.
Both the 4Runner and the Land Cruiser have Toyota hitch options that are approved for weight-distributing use. The 4 Runner has this option for the Class II and Class III packages and the Land Cruiser has the option only with the Class IV tow package that has a GTW of 6,500lbs.
